What we played: the Crossley brothers 'n' the Sheriff. (Fiasco)

We jammed through a session of Fiasco - 80 minutes! - in hindsight we should have slowed down, taken our time a bit, sipped tea, stopped & smelled the tumbleweeds.

Rob played sheriff Thompson O'Connell.
Robert played deputy Dan Crossley.
Jamie played Andrew Crossley, reformed criminal.

The Crossley brothers went different ways - one turned to a life of crime, riding with the Edwards gang, the other to law enforcement. And many years ago sheriff Thompson put Andrew behind bars - but once he was out, he gave up crime and found he had a knack for business, and soon became one of the town's (which we never got around to naming...) prominent citizens. Of course, this made deputy Dan a bit jealous, and he was looking for a way to measure up - maybe if he became sheriff? The sheriff never believed that Andrew went straight, and even kept an old wanted poster hanging in the jailhouse.

Well, the Edwards gang rode into town again - the nerve of them, coming back after what happened last time: they shot sheriff O'Connell in the ass! - and it wasn't long before the sheriff arrested the lot of them. Deputy Dan "accidentally" let them out - and they made sure to beat him up good so it wouldn't look like he did it on purpose. They rounded up a posse (including "Pa Crossley", who had alzheimers' and was expertly played by Rob) and followed the gang to an abandoned Mexican fort. Deputy Dan kicked the sheriff's horse, spooking it and carrying him into the line of fire of Edwards gang - but he heroically avoided the bullets, produced a stick of dynamite (!) and blew most of them up. Edwards did get away, though, after shooting him in the ass again.

Andrew took the opportunity to steal back that Wanted poster, but before he could burn it in the comfort of his own home Edwards arrived, held him at gunpoint, and demanded a doctor. Andrew went to fetch the doctor, but of course the doctor was busy helping the Sheriff. The deputy, helpful as ever, got the doctor drunk so "he wouldn't have the shakes during this delicate operation."

Doctor: I got the bullet out. (Holds pan out to Sheriff.)
Sheriff: That's a piece of bone, doc.

So Andrew went back home to discover that Edwards had shot his Pa. He took his revenge on Edwards. (And revealed a weakness of Fiasco: there were only white dice left at this point, so I could frame my own scene and knew it would resolve well for me. The Czege principle was violated, for a moment.) And for a moment was the town hero.

After the operation the sheriff could barely sit or walk, so he stepped down from his post and deputy Dan reached his dream of becoming sheriff. (Too bad Pa was dead and couldn't appreciate it.)

And then, Aftermath! Andrew's company fails, he turns to a life of crime, and is put in jail by his brother.
The sheriff travels, looking for a cure, fails to find one, and walks out into the desert, never to be seen again.
And the new sheriff is demoted back to deputy when the town booms and it becomes more than he can handle...he's caught committing crime himself and locked up in the cell with his brother.

Since it was the first time the three of us had gamed together, and because it's Fiasco, it went a bit cartoony. One of these days I'll play a game of Fiasco and push for something more serious.
