For Halloween, we played the latest Camp Death playset.
Terry played Biff, the pink-polo-shirt-wearing captain of the lacrosse team, bff's with Rick, played by me, who pretends to be cool but is actually still a virgin and has the hots for Rainbow, played by Greg, who is a promiscuous hippie chick. Things quickly go wrong at Camp Clearwater when one of the canoes mysteriously falls on one of the counselors - as the cops are investigating another counselor goes missing - and things go from bad to worse as night falls. Rainbow takes some shrooms and crawls into a cabin bed with who she thought was Rick but turns out to be the dead body of the missing counselor. Axe wounds abound - and who happens to be holding a blood-spattered axe when the cops emerge from the cabin? Rick, of course. "But that was to cut so-and-so free of the fallen canoe!" Likely story. The cops interrogate Rick & Rainbow in the camp offices - Biff spies a strange figure in raincoat and floppy hat limping through the darkness - and discovers another murder scene - but by the time he brings the cops around the evidence is gone. Someone tries to chop their way into the room where Rainbow & Rick are held - Rainbow tries to escape through the narrow window and gets stuck, and the killer runs around to the other side and pulls her through, screaming. Rick and Biff try to follow their tracks through the woods and find her alive by a police car - with a dead cop inside. And where have all the other cops gone? Maybe those stories about the Clearwater Killer from the sixties were true! Maybe he's come back! The tilt: magnificent self-destruction and friendship betrayed. Huddling in the cafeteria by the fire, the freaked out counselors argue about what to do. Biff decides to go back to the cop car for the radio in the pouring rain. (Magnificent self destruction.) Rainbow starts to peak on the shrooms and runs out into the forest, following a glowing light that leads her on. (Magnificent self destruction, part 2.) Rick tries to follow Rainbow, and catches up to her and Biff arguing in the abandoned farmhouse of the former alleged Clearwater Killer - which now has corpses arranged in strange ritual patterns. He shuts off his cop flashlight and sneaks in to the house. (Magnificent self destruction, part 3.) There's a showdown - Biff tries to kill Rainbow; Rick brains Biff; the floor collapses and Biff pulls them both down into the basement. The aftermath: Biff's parents are found dead in his Chicago home - killed shortly before he came to camp. In the basement is the corpse of the Clearwater Killer, dressed in raincoat and floppy hat. Was Biff possessed by his ghost? Or living out some kind of copycat psychosis? Biff is impaled on a rusty axe on the basement floor. The cops are impressed by Rick's bravery and impromptu police-work. Rainbow runs away from her abusive father again, to show up on Rick's doorstep, where she meets ... his new girlfriend. She ends up a janitor at a summer camp. *FIN* All in all, a pitch-perfect pastiche of eighties slasher flicks, IMO. Camp Death adds some bonus 'stunt die' rules to Fiasco - when you use a 'stunt die', someone has to die! Geiger Counter is better suited to slasher fiction, but one cool thing this did that Geiger Counter doesn't was make one of the player characters the killer. We used the 'roll to find out who the killer' is option; it turned out to be the obvious choice, Biff was always pretty twitchy, but we could have made it work with the drugged out Rainbow, or both, as well.
