Ben busted out this playset:

http://yarukizero.wor...

...and I'd been wanting to play at people playing at superheroes for a while. So, enter:

The Sun Warrior aka Nathan Prezbowski, hippie superhero in his forties sticking it to the man, whose costume is modeled on a japanese superhero teddy bear from the eighties, great sentimental value to him. (Xander)

___***X-RAY***___ (that's how he signs his name on RealLifeSuperheroes.Org) aka Tom Schneider, wannabe in his twenties, 'fights crime' (he's never fought crime) in an overly hot 3/2 wetsuit - sweaty and squeaks when he moves. (Jamie)

and

Gail Masters, public defendant just turned thirty, assigned to The Sun Warrior's case - he was caught breaking into a library at night (he smashed through an interior plate glass window to elude pursuit but somehow still didn't get away) in full costume. Because, you know, he didn't want to check out the book, Patriot Act and whatnot. (Ben)

X-Ray and Gail meet in a weapons store that Gail is investigating to get information on The Sun Warrior's case. X-Ray falls in love - and passes out from his hot wetsuit. Gail ends up with his crossbow.

The Sun Warrior has bigger problems than crime: the bank is foreclosing on his mom's house. He bemoans this on the internets and X-Ray realizes he can make his bones by helping the Sun Warrior out. X-Ray ambushes the loan officer outside and tasers him, takes him to a makeshift room somewhere (in hindsight, I should have made it X-Ray's parents' basement - story games l'esprit d'escalier) and threatens him but lets him go when he discovers it's the wrong loan officer.

The Sun Warrior, going after the right loan officer, gets hospitalized and arrested - also, he smashes a bush (it was handy), trying to intimidate the man, and realizes that he's sacrificed his hippie ideals. What has the Sun Warrior become?

Gail: "You have a good job at the apple store genius bar, helping people with their phones. Why don't you tell that to the judge?"
Sun Warrior: "I do want to help people."
Gail: "With their phones. That's important. People need help with their phones."
Sun Warrior: "I want to help people with their phones. But I take a more holistic view of what that means. In order to even use their phones-"
Gail: "Don't tell that to the judge."

X-Ray, fallen for Gail, visits her in street clothes, confesses to the assault of the loan officer, and tells her if she gives him a sign he'll give up the superhero life. She does seem strangely moved by him, but then has her court case, which she doesn't want derailed.

She manages to get leniency for the Sun Warrior who then loses his shit at the press conference because one of the reporters brings up the fact that the company that made the bear his costume resembles is bringing a lawsuit against him.

And then we aced the aftermath. The Sun Warrior continues to stick it to the man - this time the online casino that his mother is addicted to. X-Ray really does go straight and gets a good job as a web designer, but when he rings Gail's doorbell she never answers. Gail's career advances and she becomes a champion for vigilante rights.

All in all, strong, hilarious start, kind of fizzled out at the end as the dice were overly nice to us.

Yeah, I thought of a much better epilogue for Gail afterwards. Which is always how it is.

1) mysterious death of DA, vigilante crossbow assassination
2) Gail accepts promotion
3) Gail champions stamping out rogue vigilante heroes. She will avenge DA as new DA!
4) Gail disposing of the crossbow she used to whack the DA…

That's more radical Fiasco, probably more radical than Gail got in the time allowed.

You're right Jamie, definitely fun at the start but we didn't actually have a story arc that really moved. I think we didn't get a strong enough hook between X-ray and Sun Warrior -- having the two of them facing off or fighting for Gail's attention or whatever would have been golden (X-ray sees Sun Warrior with Gail, gets jealous!)

Still, some very priceless bits given how sleepy we started.
