This One Time At Juvie Camp (Shooting the Moon)

It's summer camp, but for rehabbing the kids in juvie. The tone was aimed to start out light-ish: these were delinquents into graffiti and pranks and dealing a little weed, not heroin and stabbings.

Beloved: Evan 'Caster' Brady, (Drew)
Caster is a budding football player, with a bright career ahead of him if he can just keep out of trouble. This is proving really difficult.
Beyond Intimidation, Slippery, Legendary, Social Chameleon, Knows A Guy, Flair for the Dramatic.

Opportunity: only members in camp from the same approximate gang
Obstacle: poor impulse control
Dream: Football scholarship.

Suitor 1: Weston Hanney (Sam)
Weston is from a bad place. Everyone in his family has a criminal record, pretty much, and so do most of the people he grew up around. Weston has always assumed that incarceration will be a part of his career path. It doesn't help that he has a special knack for getting caught.
Suave but Homely, They Don't Catch The Smart Ones but Good Defendant, Bold but Easily Spooked. Conflict: Identify As Bad.

Suitor 2: Tammy Masters (Lizzie)
From very much the right side of the tracks, she's mostly got into trouble because she thinks bad boys are super hot.

Awkward but Good-Looking, Jammy Bastard but Not Guilty (of the crime she was convicted of), Cautious but Dogged. Conflict: Attracted to Dangerous People.

We did the usual StM thing of fumbling around for about the first half with Inconclusive Awkward Scenes - pranks and getting lost on orienteering - before we landed on a plotty sequence. Tammy got her Awkward augmented by an Emotionally Inarticulate trait early on, and managed to give Caster the impression that she was only in it for hot makeouts and not any kind of committed romantic entanglement, which was precisely what he wasn't into. That built into her becoming the World's Worst Confidante, and by the end it was pretty clear that she was the antagonist. Meanwhile, Weston laboured tirelessly in the Closeted Friendzone.

At length, we got to the Breaking into a building to rummage through the confiscated item stash, Tammy and Caster fumbled upon a (very improperly secured) handgun, and, having their fingerprints all over it, panicked and stole the thing.

So the rest of the story was about the trio freaking out over getting upgraded from minor delinquents to criminal-possession-of-firearms charges ('They'll try you as an adult!'), almost getting found out, and Weston running off to save the day (and possibly take the rap, though that didn't end up happening).

At the conclusion, Weston had 7 dice, Caster 5 and Tammy 2; moreover, it was super obvious that Weston was the guy with the romantic-hero arc. So of course Tammy (the jammy bastard) won the final roll, and now we had a tragedy on our hands. Caster disentangled himself from Tammy, chased Weston into the rain... only to deliver the line 'Weston... I'm straight.' (Rising romantic-climax music abruptly cuts off, is replaced by dead silence.) And then he walks back into the cabin with X, and shuts the door. We had a number of interpretations of his motives, but we felt it was best that we left it there rather than establishing an authoritative version.

This was a pretty damn good StM by the time we reached the conclusion; it took a fair while to figure out where the crucial story arc was going to be, but by the time we made it to the last round things were buzzing along nicely. Jumping into romance plots from a cold start is freakin' tough, man. I should really try StM wherein the romantic interest of the Suitors is well-established before the first scene.
Story Games Seattle was rebooted in March 2010 as a weekly public meetup group for playing GMless games. It ran until March 2018, hosting over 600 events with a wide range of attendees.

Our charter was: Everyone welcome. Everyone equal. No experience necessary.
