The Cast

Aurora the Fae- An impulsive young woman of strong emotions, she was all about the environment, animal rights, and of course keeping promises. Her ex, ostensibly a foreign exchange student, had turned her into a Fae before returning home. (Dani)

Mara the Ghoul- She couldn't remember much about her life before something called her out of her grave. The name Mara came from two parts of a broken tombstone. She hungered for power and fear. (Ed)

Montag the Hollow- A golem who was looking over the cemetery where Mara had been buried, he took his cues from her. All the weirdness around him seemed normal because he didn't know any better. (J.C.)

Zack the Werewolf- Descended from a long line of werewolves, he tended to be a pretty cool customer most of the time, just chillin'. That is until he decided to let the wolf out... (Manu)

It started out as a mostly normal day at school. Things went downhill fast when Aurora confronted their homeroom teacher about his relationship with another student and learned that he was a demon. A scene in gym class lead to a fight later that put someone in the hospital. And Zack went Darkest Self, attacking the demon teacher and the girl he had a crush on-- Aurora. Eventually our four, uh, heroes, convened at Zack's house and agreed to confront the teacher the next day. The fight was brutal. Eventually The Fae took the teacher with her into the Fae Realm and left him there and The Werewolf finished off The Ghoul. The Hollow, who had originally sided with The Ghoul, was left standing in the classroom when The Fae and Werewolf in his wolf form disappeared into the Fae Realm.

We've been playing the MCless version of this lovely little game quite a bit at the Saturday meet-up. It's been good times, though having played both versions, I will admit that it doesn't feel quite the same. It breaks the narrative a bit to have to stop to figure out what a good hard move would be. This game is really designed to give players authorship of their characters, so having to switch PC and NPC hats also takes a bit away from the experience. I could see concern about stepping on other people's toes with narrative freedom too.

Like I said though, it was fun. Mechanically not that complicated. The characters were interesting and the story was full of surprises. No one expected Mr. Serafinowitz to be a demon or for The Ghoul to turn on the other PCs! And as always, we had a good time around the table.

Thanks to Manu- who was brave enough to request this, Ed, and J.C. for their energy and creativity!
