players: Neil, Robin, Jordan, Cole

Our history was samurai-like warrior clans fighting for control of the stars. Even in the far future the warriors spurned anything that wasn't a traditional weapon, so yes, we had sword fights on the hulls of space ships in deep vacuum (=awesome). There were a bunch of clans, so to speed up the naming process we decided they were named after mythological monsters: the Titan clan, the Hydra clan, the Siren clan, etc.



Everyone did a really excellent job of building on each other's ideas. A good example was the whole arc around the period of Broken Promises, when the Titan clan rose to dominate all the other clans. Neil introduced it during the setup of the game but as we proceeded everyone had a hand in making it much more surprising. We found the geisha diplomats brought the Titan lord down in the end and that Periods later his ronin followers (the Sons of Titan) wreaked bloody vengeance on the other clans for "betraying" their lord, but then we went back to the start of the period and found out that the Titan lord came to power by dishonorably betraying all the other leaders -- he invited them to a peaceful summit and then murdered them all.

But oh no, not all of them! Cole jumped back and revealed that the young lord of the Hydra clan had learned of the plan from his spies and sent a double to die instead, making him the sole survivor. Then Jordan described the stealthy Hydra lord kidnapping the Titan lord's daughter in revenge, except (surprise) she went willingly, which led Robin to ask "was it love or teenage rebellion?".

And then to cap it all off, Cole drops the bombshell in our final Legacy that the lone Hydra warrior later snuck in to the Titan lord's massive palace (again) and slew him. But wait, we say, that's before the event where the Titan lord is overthrown? How can that happen if he's dead? Oh no, says Cole, the Hydra lord -- who everyone has thought was dead for years now -- takes the reclusive Titan lord's place and rules in his stead.

Which means it's really the secret Hydra usurper who is defeated by the rebelling clans at the end of the period, the very guy who defeated the tyrant. And that also means that the Sons of Titan, the ronin warriors who are sworn to avenge their lord, are really avenging the guy who slew their lord. Ouch!

Whew. And with that fantastic last revelation we all applauded and left.
