Protocol: Joan of Arc (space-station needs fixing)

Jack Peters was the ‘pilot’ who got his job through rich parents. He shares a bit of a bond with the coordinator Mike, but tensions flare whenever there’s trouble. Mike is frustrated about the previous repair mission at a power plant. He blames the engineer who died during the mission, and Mike didn’t get a promotion. Claire’s the new technician, and is a real nerd. Gregor was military and would have been tried for war crimes (whole national army was tried) had he not been shipped off to Semet.

Spacestation Stump-Corp 7 has been pierced by a laser beam from the dark-side of the planet and has lost its Hydrogen Inducer. We take a shuttle from Semet ground to the station which orbits every 2 hours. It’s a bureaucratic.

1) Mike interrogates Claire on what’s damaged in the space station (Hydrogen Inducers)

2) Gregor helps Claire fix the Hydrogen inducer, sees that there are missing power converters. Claire, it’s like a body, the power is the heart of the station. The station can’t function without a heart. “But only half of converters missing; station has half a heart. What can station do with half power?” “Have you ever seen someone with half a heart? no”

4) Scene in the control room above the living section “It’s not all about you, I’ll lose my allowance.”
“Everything’s fucking cool”

5) “Why’d you let Jack do the announcement? You’d be better at it, I’d be better at it, hell, even Gregor would do fine at it”
—Mary (One of the supers in the station) Tells everyone that air is leaking, .5% in the last 5 hours. We need to move civilians from the main living area for safety because the holes in the station are nearby.

6) Claire interrogates Gregor about how he feels abt Jack. Finds out that Gregor’s unit specialized in taking out spaceships.

7) Talk with ground, give report (accidental laser) Gregor - “Is not civilian laser. Too big, has to be military. Civilian lasers can’t penetrate atmosphere.” “Do you follow news? You never hear about dark side. Is first sign of authoritarian regime if you don’t hear news. What’s there? I don’t know”

8) A hatch is found to be open, connected to transport ship. It’s old, civilian. Jack - “These old ships can have lots of hiding spots.” Attached ~3hr before the laser blast.

9) The main hydrogen inducer has been demolished with clubs, and claire can’t repair it at all. It generates all of the oxygen on board. There’s a backup generator which might work, but will take a week to get going. Gregor says there isn’t enough oxygen for that long, and that they should put the civs into lethargic state through gas. Mike needs to mix the coolant from the demolished inducer with cleaning fluid and spray in the civilian area. Gregor will do crowd control with acoustic inverter “Is nonlethal” “Is from ship, am using on ship, all legal”

Claire: “Gregor, it’s a human body. You can’t just cut off an arm and expect everything to be fine.” “Obviously you’ve not been in war. Lot’s of people don’t have arms, just harder.”

10)Civs force themselves through a bulkhead pack Mike and Jack.

11)One of them interrogates Mike about what’s happening. “shodding construction” “Hey, I helped build this ship” “Then you’re apparently a shoddy builder”

12) Hatch explodes and implodes middle section of space station.

13) They’re all stuck in the transport ship. Someone has ripped all the controls out so Jack can’t fly the ship. Claire thinks that maybe they can try flying the ship by attaching bare wires to fire the thrusters. Jack doesn’t think that he can fly it well enough to dock. “does anyone else have a better idea”. Gregor: “We have spacesuit, I can pull” “You’ll be crushed, and the space ship is too heavy” “It’s space, we don’t have gravity. I just have to work harder, go slow. I’ll be fine”

14) Gregor prepares to pull. Mike tried to contact the surface, but gets no answer. Gregor responds “Of course you don’t get signal, we’re on dark side of planet. Look at continents, they don’t look same. Don’t you ever look out window?” They see a bright dot on surface, is localized, turns out to be another laser blast.

15) They are unable to contact Gregor, and the line has been severed, and the thrusters have been annihilated. Claire sends a spark to the ruined thrusters to generate a magnetic pulse and attach the transport to the hull.

16) Gregor asks Clair about supplies needed to jump across the middle section of Stump-Corp. They put oxygen generators inside makeshift helmets which are not entirely airtight. The jump will take 4~5 minutes, and is powered only by initial jump.

Conclusion
They make it across, but claire’s oxygen falls off and she needs to hold hr breath for 3-4 minutes. Gregor finds some civilians and is trying to coral them, but Mike panics and has the transport ship
launch without Gregor. When Claire wakes up, she fights with Mike and then retires to another planet where she doesn’t go off into space. Gregor holes up the civilians he found and uses a single oxygen inducer to keep the ~10 alive until help comes in a couple weeks. He stays planetside from then on. Jack sees Mike as incompetent and then becomes an alright guy. Mike is tossed aside by one of his powerful friends and is fired.
Story Games Seattle was rebooted in March 2010 as a weekly public meetup group for playing GMless games. It ran until March 2018, hosting over 600 events with a wide range of attendees.

Our charter was: Everyone welcome. Everyone equal. No experience necessary.
