“Ix-nay on the ega-may og-fray!” — Connor Loveway, trying to keep a low profile. Ahem, *Doctor* Connor Loveway I’m ranking this as the best Pokemon-inspired Microscope game ever. Our basic idea was a world where these strange new creatures emerged (“monsters” or “akatsu” depending on whether you asked a farmer or a scientist) and soon people learned to domesticate and train them. We had pleasant sporting tournaments and “dog shows” but before long humans found ways to totally exploit them. Slave labor. Shock troops. Pretty serious stuff, actually, which was part of our discussion during setup: we were taking the fun and light “monster trainer” idea, but with a serious spin. Lots of great scenes playing adventurer/scoundrel “Doctor” Connor Loveway, his outraged financial backer/jet-setting socialite Lorraine, and his assistant “I’m real brains of the operation” Carly, trying to abduct and then ultimately saving the mammoth Mega-Frog after it awoke in the deep jungle. Thanks for facilitating, Ritchie! |
