Downfall
Name: Cloudland Flaw: Complacency Elements: Dream, Empire, Steel ---Dream: The people wish to see a never-ending empire ---Empire: Very much Rome-inspired. The Haven is the capitol city Steel: Highly industrialized society in the nearish future. Traditions: Justice: Long arm of the law. Religion: State religion which has existed for centuries. Art: Classically inspired and produced exclusively from a patron system. Lots of symbology. Employment: Assigned government jobs, more or less. Self-employment not allowed or otherwise encouraged. Military: Strong presence in government. Necessary for all the foreign conquesting it does. Career military is the way to go. Naming: Last name is your profession. First name is pulled from a regulated pool, tied to your profession. Hero: John Director --High in civilian government. --Doesn't like the employment system and thinks it stifles individual and societal growth Fallen: Grace Defender --Top in military government --Military counterpart to the Hero. Pillar: Richard Acolyte --High ranking in the religious branch of the government. --Colleague of the Hero. --Charismatic PR head of religion. A televangelist type. Our Have does lotsto reflect Rome towards the end of its reign. Reach and imperial efforts have colonies everywhere, but the citizens at home are becoming more difficult to control. It all starts out with a subversive painting. A glorious painting of a proud ironwork, but he holds a violin? How shocking! This individual does not reflect their assigned place in society, so it has suddenly become a subversive piece of art. The artist should have been disappeared, but the patron was public about condemning the individual. The idea is out. We find our Hero agrees that the established caste-like system is out of date after exposure to such ideas in his youth. Now as a powerful man, he looks to feed this idea to the populace with subtle maneuvers. However, Grace, and everyone, have moles planted everywhere. John is now a watched man, in case he tries to further perpetuate such crazy ideas of individualism. The idea creeps. More unrest pops up. The Pillar is "indifferent" to the idea. A bold move is taken. John hears an idea. To spread ideas between geographical points, he has a worker exchange program organized as a way to get blue collar types moved to different sectors under the guise of resource management and the need for increased production. Voluntary relocation, of course. A civilian act for the betterment of Cloudland. The military branch strikes! Individuals who volunteer for relocation away from their assigned sectors are going against the way things have been for centuries, and htat is subversive. The volunteers are publicly subdued and the military shows its hand. The idea is traced back to our Hero, and Grace goes to arrest/overthrow him directly. Secret supporters are everywhere, even in the military, and John escapes arrest. John has been building secret support on the down low. In the face of this coup situation, he activates a discretely distributed mobile phone app to tell his followers that the subtle approach has ended. Everyone should meet at the prearranged location for the next step. The military becomes aware of this and sends its might to meet the unauthorized gathering. Before the scene blows up, our Pillar reveals himself to John as a secret supporter the whole time. Shock! In the downward action of the story in the final turn of game play, John and Richard distribute a prerecorded speech to the internet/general public, utilizing Richard's position as a popular and high visibility PR person. A call to Revolution! Martial law. Civil war. Everything falls to pieces because the government in power assumed that operating the same way for the past several centuries would work for the centuries to come. Complacency was their Downfall. |
