Aw geez. I haven't written a write-up in forever. The pitch was for a serious Freeasco (the build your own setting on the fly hack of Fiasco). We ended up deciding on a scout ship searching for a habitable planet. Our small crew spent alternating shifts in "deep sleep", until... Dr. Paul Stricks-Templeton (Caroline) didn't really want to go on this voyage. As the ship's psychiatrist he pulled some strings in the mental evaluation of his alcoholic wife, Annalise (Tim), to become the chief security officer on board, fulfilling her dreams of finding a new world. The stress of the ship, and Paul's infidelity, are too much for their relationship, and they have separated, but not long afterwards Dr. Eli Kor, the ship's medic, (Chris) informs Annalise of her pregnancy. Annalise intends to terminate the pregnancy. Paul begins to suffer from visions of a new world. Meanwhile, the ship's scientific leaders, Kaleo (Shimon) and Dr. Aaron Lane (Caspian) look carefully at possible habitable planets as we travel along. Kaleo has noticed something strange in the "deep sleepers" though. As he co-dreams with them he sees visions of a planet. But Kaleo may be suffering from stress himself, he has made mistakes about a planet's habitability before. Who knows if his judgement this time around will be any better? At about this point we get to the tilt. We used the soft-tilt table and honestly, it might not have been soft enough. Our tilt was "Deception: the mighty fall exceedingly hard". It ended up being a nice way to show Lane and Kor's dark truth, that they witnessed the murder of the Arc Ship's previous captain (the ship we all lived in before going on the scouting mission) at the hands of the current captain. Anyway, long story short, there's an explosion on board. Dr. Kor notices an anomaly in the brains of everyone but a few crew members (including himself). It's decided that people with the anomaly are hallucinating that they are in a different setting. Their interactions with the setting may be dangerous. All hell breaks loose on the ship, and we see Paul standing amidst flames, talking to Annalise about their new home and how beautiful their daughter is. Lots of hallucinations later and we've landed on the planet and begin dreaming of being on a ship. In the end, it's unclear what was dream and what was reality. The soft aftermath was likely a little harsh for our serious tone. Well, maybe not harsh, but the language wasn't fitting (it's obviously still humorous). I thought it was a great game. I love serious Fiasco, it's just a great way to play a relationship-centered game with minimal interference from a mechanical system. Thank you everyone for the lovely time! :D |
