We were the Weavers, a humanitarian group bent on going back in time and treating the great diseases of history. Our philosophy was that suffering is suffering: it makes no difference if the person has been dead for a thousand years, their pain is just as deserving of treatment as any other patient. We said we planned out the consequences carefully (cough, Joe) but sometimes it didn't work out as we planned. We stopped the Black Plague which unintentionally plunged overpopulated Europe into whole new wars. (yep, we were basically playing a Microscope Echo game of Kingdom) Our locations were, I have to say, pretty great. We had outposts throughout history where we'd emerge to do our work. A humble apothecary in medieval Europe, our beachhead for researching and fighting the Plague. The Library of Alexandria (pre-burning) and the modern day World Health Organization, so we'd have all the data we needed. And the Nixon-era Oval Office. What disease did we avert in the 60s? Maybe history doesn't say, because we succeeded! In each era we were basically undercover agents, dressing and acting appropriately, from togas to three piece suits. Our favorite spot for serious personal discussions? The ballroom of the Titanic, shortly before the crash-boom-glub-glub-glub. We'd go back over and over again for drinks and tuxes. It was either a looming metaphor for the dangers confronting humanity or else _some of us_ (cough, Joe) just liked the champagne and music. We had some tight family connections -- Eric's character was the missing founder's son, semi-adopted by the organization's matriarch, played by Joe, who was also the foster mother of Ace's character, a doctor driven to cure the plague that claimed her husband, who I totally failed to get out in time. Those tight connections also totally doomed us when it was revealed that the person behind the Stitchers, another time-traveling organization bent on undoing all our work, was none other than our own founder, Eric's character's father. Doh! Did our matriarch (Joe) know? Yeah she kinda knew! Was she behind getting rid of our founder and/or covering up that he was against us now? Yeah she kinda was! Did I mention she had Power..? |
