Back to the Earth (August 5)
Microscope Players: Eric, Jason, Sylvia Hard SF at an epic scale. We took the time-period from "Mankind leaves Earth" through to "Remaining mankind stuck on Earth," and dove in to the historical arc. Our early guidelines pushed us in a hard SF direction: We explicitly called for an interstellar scope (Jason) the existence of gravity control tech (Eric) and relativistic nearly-as-fast-as-light travel, with its related effects like time distortion (Sylvia). At the same time, we banned any sentient, xenobiological aliens (though we explicitly refused to rule out "aliens" that were divergent humans) (Jason), and we put the kibosh on faster-than-light travel (Sylvia). With those ground rules in play, we followed the rise of humanity through galactic expansion, the rise of a post-human species, and the eventual cordoning off of Earth as a DNA Contamination Zone, where the M7 virus rewrote post-human genomes to re-establish "real" humanity. |
